Eight days – that’s all it took for Volkswagen’s New Midsize Coupe (NMC) Concept that was unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show last week to be captured on camera in production form, and without a single trace of camouflage.

If the thinly disguised concept’s design left you unimpressed, then the production prototype won’t win you over as it keeps the same body changing some of the more likeable aspects of the study, such as the integrated exhaust pipes, door-mounted mirrors, bumper trim accents and funkier tail light cluster graphics for toned-down, standard components.

To be frank, if someone showed us this car without having any knowledge about the study and told us that it’s the new regular Jetta saloon for China, we would have believed them. The same blandness continues inside where the NMC copies the Golf’s interior adding sportier seats and a flat-bottom steering wheel.

Reports from China suggest that the NMC will be made in partnership with the German brand’s local joint-venture Shanghai VW, with production to start towards the end of the year, while in the U.S., it has been said that the NMC or a similar model could be made in Mexico from 2016.
