What Was This Idiot Thinking Running a Red Light to Beat a Train?

I know, “idiot” sounds like a harsh word, but once you read the facts and see the freshly released dramatic surveillance footage of the accident that this driver caused in Houston, Texas, you might just agree with the characterization.

The driver of the black Jeep, later identified as Raunel Arreola-Moreno, ran a red light and attempted to zigzag between the crossing gates at Fannin and Naomi last Wednesday, to beat a train. Instead, the train slammed into the SUV.

Amazingly, everyone survived, according to METRO and KHOU News, which reported that, two adults and two children inside the SUV were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. There were no injuries reported from the passengers of the train.

As for Arreola-Moreno, police cited the driver for running a red light and bypassing the crossing gate.
