The two major French manufacturers have always been involved with motorsport and have as long a tradition as any in competitive motor racing. Peugeot has always been into rallying and some GT racing, whereas the jewel in Renault’s showoff crown has always been their successful incursion into Formula 1.
The manufacturer’s participation in F1 that started in the mid-1970s has not necessarily been the most consistently successful, but they have racked up 2 constructor’s championships and out of 284 starts, 35 victories, 51 poles and 31 fastest laps.
Naturally, they’ve been using the F1 connection as a marketing ploy for decades now, and the most recent example of this are the two ads posted below. They features people coming in to fill up or go shopping, only to have an entire crew of F1 mechanics rush in, change their tires and generally cause pit lane-esque commotion around them.
The only problem is this idea feels oh-so re-rehashed, as variations of this idea have been a mainstay of F1-related road car commercials for years…
