As a contender in one of the most popular vehicle categories in the States, the new midsize Chrysler 200 is crucial to FCA’s (Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles) ambitious growth plans, and the first signs seem to be positive.

The Detroit carmaker said on Wednesday that more than 10,000 customer orders for the 2015 Chrysler 200 were placed on the first day the vehicle ordering system opened on Thursday, May 8, with more than 17,000 placed during the first two days.

“The Chrysler brand is thrilled to see the level of enthusiasm customers and dealers have shown to order the all-new 2015 Chrysler 200,” commented Al Gardner, President and CEO of the Chrysler Brand.

The new 200 starts from $21,700 excluding destination and is available with two powerplants, a 184hp 2.4-liter inline-four and a 295hp 3.6-liter V6 that’s optionally offered with all-wheel drive. The strong competition includes the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Nissan Altima and Ford Fusion.
