Clearly looking to make Polestar more of a mainstream in-house tuner, Volvo is changing the small company’s role from doing racing cars and some road-going one-offs, to also doing actual cars for people to use every day; we now learn that these may even come with diesel and/or electric power too.

That’s really a good thing, because Volvo’s 2.4-liter five-cylinder engine would make for one heck of a performance diesel, if they wanted it to be…

The paragraph above is wishful speculation, especially since Autocar is adamant that no future units that are to be added to the Drive-E family of engines will be larger than two-liter. Their information also suggest all-wheel drive will be a feature of future Polestar-badged models, though it won’t be the conventional type necessarily, as Volvo is also looking at powering the rear wheels exclusively via electricity.

Another important bit of information revealed in the report is the fact that the range of Polestar models will extend to encompass the entire Volvo lineup with the next generation of models they release.
