We now know that Porsche experimented with a V8 engine in the 911, so the sports car manufacturer has decided to share another secret from the 911’s life. Well, it’s actually more related to the Boxster than the 911, as in the early 1990s, Porsche started testing the layout of the future mid-engined sports car within the body of a 911.
That was done in order to hide the car from curious and especially rival eyes the fact that the company was developing a mid-engined model. The rear windows of the car were blacked out so than nobody could spot the engine located behind the front seats.
This shows the great lengths manufacturers are willing to go to in order to protect their secrets. This car and the V8 prototype are part of the Porsche Museum’s collection in Stuttgart.
