The Huet Brothers are a Dutch duo who in 2007, debuted their first custom designed barchetta-style open top sports car, called the HB Special (driven in the low-res video posted below), and the idea for a coupe model arose in 2010. In 2012 they revealed their drawings of what the car will look like, and since then the company has been selling high-end watches to finance the project.

Now, Autovisie tells us that the two are waiting for the next-gen Mazda MX-5, in order to borrow its underpinnings for use in the previously rendered coupe model. In addition to that, they’re also waiting for the order books to gain additional names; they need 40 orders in order to give the go-ahead for production, and currently have 21 confirmed.

They chose to wait for the next MX-5 to come along because of its lightweight chassis, to which they’ll add their own carbon monocoque. Total mass for each example needs to stay under 800 kg or ~1,700 lbs.

Three versions of the Coupe will be available: a standard car, a more hardcore version of that, suitable for both road and track driving, and a dedicated track model.
