In the quest to complete the slated production run of 18 cars planned for the E-Type “Lightweight,” of which only 12 were ever built in the early 1960s, Jaguar will be building six more of them.
It’s the first project ever of this type undertaken by the Coventry-based firm, and it’s their express wish that all cars are built to exacting specifications – “perfect reproductions” is what they called them.
Even the old straight-six, displacing 3.8-liters in this application, will be built, from what we understand, with no modern parts whatsoever.
The cars they’ll produce will instantly shoot to the top of petrolheads’ wishlists, especially if they are priced lower than the third-party-built ones you can get today. Simply being a Jaguar built by Jaguar people under official orders makes these six cars more special than any kit car provider, no matter how exclusive they may be.
