The last time Mercedes offered a flagship convertible with seating for four passengers, it was with the W111 and W112 series models more than four decades ago. If you’re a fan of big open-top Benzes, you’ll be pleased to know that the new S-Class Coupe will give birth to a new Cabriolet edition.
Our man with the long lens seized one of the prototypes for the new S-Class Cabriolet in Germany wearing a heavy disguise with a hard plastic cover on its head to conceal the canvas hood.
This luxurious four-seater model will be an S-Class Coupe in everything but its retractable soft top, and will eventually be offered with a twin-turbocharged V8 delivering 449hp (455PS) and a twin-turbo V12 with 523hp (530PS). Sportier AMG versions with the same number of cylinders are possible, but have not yet been confirmed.
When it enters the automotive scene sometime next year, the new S-Class Cabriolet will offer Mercedes a direct rival to the Bentley Continental GT Convertible.
