Volkswagen not only continues to test prototypes of the Golf R Estate /Variant /Wagon /SportWagen (same car, different names for different markets) on the Nürburgring circuit, but it’s doing so with even more production-ready cars, as you can see from this latest undisguised prototype.

Actually, this black-colored example adds two of the three main bits to the styling puzzle that were absent from the silver tester we saw last month, including the silver wheels and the rear bumper with a diffuser and quad pipes, and the only parts left to complete the look are the side skirts.

Naturally, the Golf R station wagon borrows its powertrain setup from the hot hatch pairing a 296bhp (300PS) 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four to a DSG transmission or a 6-speed manual gearbox and the 4MOTION permanent all-wheel drive system with a fifth-generation Haldex coupling.

We wouldn’t be surprised if VW treats event-goers at this week’s Wörthersee GTI Meet in Austria with a preview of the car.

Whether a production version of the Golf R Estate could come to North America remains unknown, but feel free to tell us if you’d want that to happen in the comments section below.
