Originality is what keeps the value of a classic car high, and the reason why this 1953 Aston Martin DB2 Vantage Coupe is expected to fetch up to €240,000 or $334,000 when it goes under the hammer at RM Auctions Monaco event on May 10.
One of 410 built, this car was delivered in 1953 to a lawyer from Pennsylvania that went by the name Arthur R. Conte. He later sold it to a gentleman from California, who eventually passed it on to a New York collector through which it made its way back to Europe.
The current owner is the one who brought it back from the States, and also preserved it in its exacting original specification. It looks a bit rough, but that’s solely because it’s not been touched in any major way since it was built more than sixty years ago…
It’s believed to be “the finest unrestored, original example in existence.”
In this Vantage spec, the car featured an improved version of the regular DB2’s 2.6-liter straight-six that upped the horsepower rating to 125 hp. This meant the car sprinted to sixty in under 11 seconds and topped out at 117 mph.
