Evidently, the Seat Leon Cupra 280’s record breaking Nürburgring lap time for a production hatchback of 7 minutes and 58.44 seconds that took the crown from the current Megane RS Trophy (8:07.97 min) didn’t sit well with Renault that is preparing a comeback with an even faster version of their compact model.

Over the past few weeks, Renault has been teasing us with prototypes lapping the Nordschleife and postings using the hashtag “#UNDER 8” that promises a better time than the Seat, and now it has released a video in which we see some details about the new exhaust by Akrapovic, which should give the hotter Megane RS an extra punch.

It’s anyone’s guess at this point if RenaultSport performed any other changes under the hood as well as the suspension and tire selection, but to reduce the current model’s ‘Ring lap time by nearly 10 seconds, the upgrades shouldn’t be limited to the exhaust.

The current Megane RS Trophy has a 2.0-liter turbocharged four delivering 265PS (261hp) and 360Nm (265 lb-ft).
