There had been some rumors floating around about Skoda prepping a concept for the next Fabia at the Geneva Motor Show in March, which proved to be wrong. Instead, Skoda will likely present the new model in production guise at the upcoming Paris Motor Show this October before it rolls out in European showrooms.
These spy pictures shot at the Nürburgring show that, design-wise, the new Czech supermini won’t stray too far off from other products in Skoda’s lineup and in particular the Rapid, blending the familiar shape of the current Fabia with slightly edgier lines on the body.
The third generation Fabia will be the first VW Group model to utilize a smaller version of the modular MQB platform, which will then find its way under the next VW Polo, Seat Ibiza and Audi A1 sub-compacts. As it will grow both in length and in width, the new Fabia will offer improved space for passengers and their luggage.
For its motivation, expect a selection of VW Group units like the 1.2-liter and 1.4-liter TSI petrol units, the 1.6-liter diesel and possibly even the VW Up’s 1.0-liter 3-cylinder engine. It has been reported that Skoda has no plans for a sporty RS replacement due to poor sales.
