Update: Skoda released a photo of the Citijet concept’s rear end today
Following a teaser design sketch and a video, Skoda has finally unveiled the CitiJet, a two-seater sports convertible study based on the Citigo mini car. Designed and built by 16 Skoda apprentices during a period of six months, the CitiJet features metallic paintwork in blue/white, blue 16-inch alloy wheels and a hand-made rear spoiler sitting atop a redesigned bumper which includes an exhaust with two tailpipes.
The double exhaust is just for looks though, as the car is powered by the standard 1.0-liter petrol engine with 75PS (74hp). The interior is based on the Skoda Citigo Sport and includes red-stitched, leather-lined three-spoke steering wheel as well as leather-covered handbrake handle and gear knob. The seat covers and floor mats have a “Sport” material design, while the dashboard is painted white and red. The CitiJet is also fitted with a 300-watt sound system connected to music-reactive LED lighting.
“Our apprentices have put their hearts and souls into this vehicle. Every little detail, no matter how small, was discussed, agreed upon and put into practice by the team. It was a real team effort. The outcome: a unique and emotional car, of which everybody involved should be very proud of,” said Skoda design boss Jozef Kabaň who oversaw the project.
The car will be on display at this year’s GTI event at Wörthersee (May 28-31). I don’t know what you think, but in my view Skoda’s apprentices did a much better job of transforming the Citigo into a roadster compared to what Seat designers did to the Ibiza.
