The five-door version of the new MINI Cooper is a car with many real rivals and a few what ifs, as well. One of the latter would be a five-door Citroen DS3, a car that if we take the rendering below seriously, looks good and would probably fit right into the current Citroen range as a posher and more expensive alternative to the C3 for those who still need the practicality of rear doors but want DS style.
Citroen should really think about creating it, since it would most certainly not offend anybody, since the MINI five-door didn’t do so either, despite being one of the biggest departures from the original Issigonis formula, along with the crossovers…
The DS3 five-door, here seen sporting the newfangled facelift headlights, is a must if Citroen is serious about the sector it’s trying to compete in with the three-door model; it’s doing alright, but some are still pushed away by its availability exclusively as a coupe.
Audi offers the A1 in both body styles and now MINI does too, plus all of its in-between rivals, like the Renault Clio, Peugeot 208; the Alfa Romeo MiTo is exclusively a three-door and it hasn’t done great on the sales charts…
