This classic 1973 Mercedes-Benz 450 (W116) model, originally a European market sedan model, has a unique estate profile that is said to be the work of a German coachbuilder called Norddeutsche Karosserrefabrik that went to work on it immediately after it was first purchased.
The 400 was the top of the range model, the equivalent of today’s S-Class in the Mercedes lineup, and the manufacturer never officially offered it in this body style.
The car has 91,592 miles on the odometer, and is currently sporting its second coat of paint; it’s mechanically sound too, needing some attention to replace worn carpets and probably a new upper dashboard piece, since the one it currently has is visibly cracked.
However, aside from these flaws and a slightly tired-looking paint finish, the car is deemed solid. The owner, who bought it from somebody who had owned it since 1989 (the car’s second ever custodian) says it would make for “an easy restoration.”
The current eBay bid stands at a reasonable $8,900, though the reserve price has not yet been met.
