Volvo’s recently unveiled interior for the XC90 SUV will be seen on other models as well, with the next car to receive it being the upcoming S80 luxury sedan. The Volvo XC90 SUV, which will be unveiled at the Paris Auto Show this autumn, features an interior that represents a radical departure from the company’s current designs.
According to a Volvo executive cited by Autocar, other models will be fitted with a similar interior as well, with larger and more premium Volvos to get it first. The all-new Volvo S80, which should arrive two or three years from now, will be the first model to get an interior based on that of the new XC90. The unnamed source also said the next-generation V70 will get it as well.
The big change in the Volvo XC90’s interior is the replacement of buttons by a large central touchscreen that handles almost all infotainment and navigation functions. Furthermore, most functions can be controlled by an improved voice recognition system.
Along with the new layout, the upcoming S80 should also get other interior elements including the use of wood and diamond-cut controls. The new S80 is very important for Volvo, as the company is looking to gain market share in the luxury sedan market.
