One cannot help but praise Porsche for returning to Le Mans after a 16-year absence and putting on a great show. Granted, they had been working on the 919 race car for at least three years, tuning its unusual V4 engine-electric motor combo to perfection, and yet it wasn’t enough, because Audi showed off its superior experience in the end.
Only one of the two cars they entered finished, and now that the race is over, Porsche has released a really rather inspirational video about their loss. They praise Audi and try to remind all viewers that it’s not always about winning – they almost avoid turning the video into an overly-dramatic cliché… almost.
Regardless, whichever of the two manufacturers would have grabbed first place, VW would have automatically won.
