This is not the first time we’ve heard talks of Subaru reviving the old 1990s SVX nameplate and using it on a car similar to the original. It was first speculated some five years ago, but then rumors died down until recently.
Motoring says it has insider information that would suggest Subaru is now considering it more seriously than ever. They say it will feature “a low-slung side profile, flared fenders and an angled shooting brake styled C-pillar,” seeming quite convinced that “the new SVX will redefine Subaru’s corporate look.”
The model will be specifically designed with the North American market in mind, and it may very well ditch the old nameplate, in search of a new three-letter abbreviation of something unfathomable.
Styling-wise, it is believed that it will draw heavy inspiration from the Viziv 2 concept, drawing from that car’s headlights, grille and high waistline.
Powertrain information is predictably slim. We know it will be all-wheel drive, using Subaru’s proprietary symmetric system, and there’s a good chance it will draw most of its power from a large-ish six-cylinder boxer and only some of its power out of electric motors and batteries. Total power is said to be around 380 hp.
The source says the model is expected to hit showrooms in 2017, with production taking place at the Subaru of Indiana plant.
