Unveiled at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show, the VW Golf R 400 Concept shows the potential for a more powerful and performance-focused Golf R. If you haven’t heard it yet, the good news is Volkswagen plans to build a limited series of the Golf R 400, which owes its name to the 400PS (395hp) produced by its tuned 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine.

To put things into perspective, the VW Golf R 400 is 100PS (99hp) more powerful than the Golf R, which means it sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 280 km/h (174 mph) – the Golf R is slower to 100 km/h by a full second and is limited to 250 km/h (155 mph).

The VW Golf R 400 study was recently spotted as it was loaded onto a transporter truck in Vienna, giving us the chance to hear the sound of its 395 ponies. A sweet noise, indeed.
