Announced by RM Auctions as going under the hammer on August 16 in Monterey, this breathtaking 1964 Ferrari 275 GTB/C Speciale by Scaglietti is expect to be one of the most expensive of its kind ever.
One of three in existence, this hand-built coupe exudes not only aesthetic allure, but also a mechanical/technical attraction, as well, featuring advanced (for the time) independent rear suspension with coil springs and a transaxle five-speed gearbox – both premieres for the brand.
The model was designed as a more modern replacement for the 250 GTO model, and it was superior to that car in every way. Three cars were built as homologation specials all of which were fitted with the same 3.3-liter 320 hp V12, a dry-sump engine breathing in through six Webber carbs.
Best racing performance for this model is third place overall at the 1965 Le Mans 24 Hours race.
