If you are a Gran Turismo fan, you’ve definitely heard about the Red Bull X2014 and X1 virtual racers, designed by Red Bull F1 Team’s chief technical officer Adrian Newey.

Conceived for the Gran Turismo 5 and Gran Turismo 6 video games, the futuristic cars showed an extreme design approach, as it usually happens when designers are free to unleash their imagination.

Rumor has it that Adrian Newey could design an Infiniti supercar too. Andy Palmer, Nissan’s executive vice president, is in favor of a deeper relationship between Infiniti and Red Bull – as you know, the luxury car brand is the title sponsor of the energy drink giant’s F1 team.

“Adrian is itching to do something new and we are actively exploring the technology cross-over with Red Bull, although these things can take a long time in the incubator,” Palmer told Top Gear. When asked whether a Newey-designed Infiniti supercar is a genuine possibility, Palmer replied: “Watch this space.”

Red Bull is not satisfied with the F1 hybrid powertrain supplied by Renault this year and may turn to Nissan to develop an all-new unit. The Japanese carmaker is currently developing its 2015 LMP1 Le Mans racer and could produce an F1 powertrain based on the one used by the GT-R LM Nismo race car.

“It has a very different aero package. It’s really pushing the boundaries, and not just in the engineering sense. We’re working on ideas around how we can activate stuff with the crowd around the car, too,” Palmer said of Nissan’s upcoming Le Mans racer, suggesting that the company could produce a street-legal version of the car that may feature Newey’s signature.
