Following the teaser photo released earlier this month, Shanghai GM, one of General Motors’ joint ventures in China, has previewed the all-new Envision crossover.
Set to go on sale across China later this year under the name “Ang Ke Wei” (昂科威), the Buick Envision is a mid-size SUV that will be positioned between the Encore and Enclave in the automaker’s lineup.
Loosely (very loosely…) inspired by the Buick Envision Concept unveiled at the 2011 Shanghai Auto Show, the production model combines the brand’s “latest global design philosophy and cutting-edge technologies,” according to the company. Buick also states that the Envision will set a new benchmark in its segment in China for “styling, space, safety, performance and technology.”
In terms of styling, the Envision adopts Buick’s corporate face with the signature waterfall grille, wing-style intelligent xenon headlights and boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights. The windshield features a one-piece chrome-plated frame, while the 19-inch alloy wheels and a luggage rack add style to the crossover.
The Buick Envision measures 4,667 mm (183.7in) in length, 1,839 mm (72.4in) in width and 1,696 mm (66.8in) in height. The wheelbase is 2,750 mm (108.2in) long, which the automaker says contributes to the vehicle’s “spacious interior”.
The crossover is powered by a 2.0-liter direct injection turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 256 hp and 353 Nm (260 lb-ft) of torque. The unit is fitted as standard with stop/start technology and mated to a new-generation six-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is also standard. GM didn’t say whether the Envision will be offered on other markets.
