The old Cadillac would never consider a sporty derivative, let alone a diesel engine offering for its biggest and brawniest SUV, the Escalade, but times are changing and GM’s luxury division is now open to both options, as revealed by David Schiavone, the model line’s brand manager.
Schiavone told Autonews that Cadillac is mulling a sporty edition of the latest Escalade with the V-Sport moniker, and the addition of two new engines, a twin-turbocharged V6 and a V6 turbo diesel.
While it wasn’t made clear in the article, we assume that an Escalade V Sport would get the 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine from the CTS V Sport in which it delivers 420hp and 430 lb-ft (582Nm) and is paired to an 8-speed automatic.
The lighter and more frugal V6 units would be made available alongside the existing 6.2-liter V8, helping the Escalade in markets outside North America, while also supporting Cadillac’s efforts to meet emissions reduction targets in the USA.
