Onboard cameras are going to get a lot more interesting in the near future, when 360-degree systems become more readily available off the shelf.
With one of those setups, any video becomes a unique interactive experience, and while paying from $650 for one built by Freedom360 seems somewhat steep, the result is really worth it.
The Mercedes F1 team recently released a few videos showing off the 360-degree camera tech. It allows the viewer to rotate the viewing angle in any direction he or she deems appropriate, or if you missed something on the side of the road and wonder what it was, you can now easily turn and look.
The videos are posted below and best viewed on an iPad, or something similar. It uses the tablet’s accelerometer and other sensors to change the viewing angle of the video according to how you position it. Oh, and you should also switch the standard viewing mode to “little planet view;” it’s the second button in the lower left corner.
