Sedan, Estate, Coupe and Convertible – those are the four confirmed body styles for Mercedes’ W205 generation C-Class, and up until now, we’ve only seen production versions of the more family-orientated, first two. The directly related C-Class Coupe and Convertible will probably appear in 2015.
This will be the first time that the C-Class will offer an open-top version in the range to go up against BMW’s hardtop 4-Series Convertible and Audi’s soft-top A5 Cabriolet.
It may look like (and indeed be) a hardtop lurking under the black and white camouflage of the pictured prototype, but the production version of Mercedes’ cabriolet will adopt a fabric-roof solution, similar to the one used on the current E-Class Convertible, for space-, weight- and cost-saving reasons.
Under the hood, we expect the most potent of the current C-Class family of engines to see duty in the Convertible. Whether Mercedes will opt to compete against BMW‘s M4 Convertible with a C63 AMG model remains unsure at this point of time.
