Ford’s global roll out of its corporate Aston Martin-esque grille continued today in the Land Down Under with the unveiling of the facelifted 2015 Falcon sedan in XR6 and XR8 forms.
The updated Falcon Ute, and possibly the successors to the high performance GT-F and GT R Spec versions that were built under the soon to be defunct FVP moniker, should be introduced later on.
While the facelift is welcome, there’s no reason to celebrate, as it marks the beginning of the end for the Falcon nameplate and Ford’s Australian manufacturing business, both of which will be killed off in late 2016.
The restyling of the seventh generation Falcon that was originally launched in 2008 brings a crispier front end that borrows styling cues from the new Mustang and Fusion / Mondeo, including edgier headlamps with daytime running lights, and wrap-around LED tail lamps at the revamped rear end.
Besides the two photos and some preliminary highlights, Ford didn’t reveal much else about the XR6 and XR8 Falcons that will go on sale towards the end of the year. However, it is expected that the XR8 will get the supercharged V8 from the outgoing Falcon GT.
