Porsche has diversified its range in recent years by adding SUVs and a luxury sedan to its sports cars lineup, and the trend is set to continue in the future. However, it appears that the expansion into new segments will not carry on at the same pace, as the BMW 5-Series-sized Pajun sedan has been delayed until at least 2019.
Porsche’s future product plans have undergone an overhaul, and the baby Panamera sports sedan has been put on hold for the moment. The internal plan called Porsche Product Strategy 2018 initially included seven different car lines that would be on sale by 2018, including new sports cars, SUVs and sedans. The Pajun was supposed to launch within the next four years, but the plan has undergone significant changes.
According to a report from CAR magazine, the Volkswagen Group needs Porsche’s profits so investments in future products have been reduced to what is absolutely necessary. Obviously, the BMW 5-Series rival is not essential at the moment for Porsche and has been delayed.
However, the project of a baby Boxster sports car has not been shelved and may see the light of day. All the other projects have reportedly been decontented, delayed or dropped.
The Pajun will be a five-door “coupe” that will emulate the shape of the Panamera and may feature design cues from the Panamera Sport Turismo concept car (pictured here). At launch, the car is expected to feature V6 engines including the 3.0-liter V6 TDI. Petrol units could go all the way up 500 hp.
