The Tesla Model S has been drag raced against a wide array of conventionally powered cars. The races usually follow the same pattern: the Model S sprints off the line faster than most cars without launch control, it keeps distancing itself until it reaches speeds of over 100 mph or 160 km/h, when its acceleration becomes far less relentless. However, unless the other car is a supercar, it’s usually quite hard for it to catch the Tesla before the end of the run.

The Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale is a proper supercar, and against it, the electric sedan stands no chance. It does manage to beat a 2012 Range Rover Sport Supercharged, though, by pretty much the same margin that it lost by to the Lamborghini. As you can imagine, not even a tuned BMW 335i or even a 700 hp tuned Mercedes G-Wagen is a match for it.

This brings the Model S modified by Saleen into question. How much faster will they make it, and just how far will they go with the modifications? They could end up creating a monster, but in a good way…
