We’ll start off by answering a question we posed last time we snagged a prototype of the new VW Transporter in regards to whether it’s a facelifted T5 or the next T6: according to our latest intel, the answer is actually both.
To explain, just like VW did with the outgoing Passat B7 that was a revised version of the B6, the Germans will keep the T5’s underpinnings, but apply a raft of upgrades to the van and rename it into the T6.
From what we understand, most of the changes on the outside will focus on the front end that will be inspired by the more angular face of last year’s eCO-Motion Concept. The production model may also features changes to the rear.
You can put your imagination to rest for the interior, as our scoop shots paint a pretty accurate picture of the all-new and more upscale, or passenger car-like, if you prefer, dashboard, that comes complete with an integrated screen for VW’s latest infotainment system.
Behind the newly designed hood, the T6 should get VW’s most recent turbocharged engines, including a raft of diesels ranging in output from around 85hp all the way up to the firm’s new 237hp (240PS) 2.0-liter BiTurbo TDI announced for the 2015 Passat, and a selection of petrol units like the 220PS 2.0-liter TSI.
