Following the design sketches released earlier this month, Hyundai has revealed the first official photos of its all-new i20 supermini.

Scheduled to debut at the Paris Motor Show this autumn, the new i20 features the brand’s “Fluidic sculpture 2.0” design language, the latest iteration of Hyundai’s styling philosophy.

The new i20 has a more European look, and that is no coincidence, as the car has been designed and developed in Europe. Hyundai says it meets three key requirements of European consumers: “class-leading interior space, a host of high-technology and comfort-enhancing features, and a distinctive, refined design.”

The i20 is easily recognizable as a Hyundai however, featuring design cues that remind of the i30. It features an upright chrome-frame hexagonal grille placed lower for “design and engineering purposes”, with a thin, horizontal upper grille connecting the front headlights, which include LED daytime running lights and LED positioning lamps. A lower grille houses the front fog lamps.

The side view reveals the gloss-finished black C-pillar that gives the impression of a floating roofline, as well as the black protection trim on the lower side of the doors. At the rear, the taillights feature a boomerang-shaped LED design.

Based on a new platform, the new generation i20 is 4,035mm (158.8in) long and has a wheelbase of 2,570mm (101.1in), which is 45mm (1.7in) longer than its predecessor. This allows Hyundai to claim that the i20 has one of the most spacious cabins in the segment. Boot volume is 326 liters (11.5 cubic feet), also said to be one of the largest in the B-segment.

Hyundai also takes pride in the i20’s panoramic sunroof, which is a unique-in-class feature. Other features include the integrated rear-view camera and front LED lighting. No word on engines, although Hyundai announced that the Indian version of the car, called the Elite i20 (the red car in the gallery), will be offered with two units: a 1.2-liter petrol with 83PS (82hp) and a 1.4-liter diesel with 90PS (89hp).

The all-new Hyundai i20 will debut on October 2 at the Paris Motor Show. Until then, you can take a closer look at it in the gallery posted below and in the first commercial for the Indian market.
