A duel between two of the most iconic German sports cars, the Porsche 911 and the BMW M3 Coupe’s successor, the M4 Coupe, is always a good idea.
While both are very competent machines, there are important differences between them that go beyond the positioning of the engine on the chassis.
With 425 hp from turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six cylinder engine, the BMW M4 is sensibly more powerful than the standard Porsche 911 Carrera, which is powered by a 345hp (349PS) 3.5-liter naturally aspirated flat six engine.
The M4 is also much less expensive than the 911 Carrera, but there’s a reason for that: the M4’s platform is also used by a number of other models from the 3-Series and 4-Series lineups, while the 911’s platform was designed specifically for this model.
UK magazine EVO put the two sports cars to the test at the Anglesey circuit, with professional racing driver Marino Franchitti assessing them both. It is an interesting video to watch, if only to see what are the ups and downs of the two cars as seen by a professional racing driver.
