Datsun presented an all-new five-door hatchback model at the Moscow International Auto Salon, called mi-DO, which shares its platform with the on-DO sedan launched earlier this year in Russia.
One thing is obvious from the first picture: the Datsun mi-DO looks better than its sedan sibling, as the hatchback shape and the new headlights and taillights form a smoother package. Since we’re talking about a budget car, everything else is shared with the on-DO sedan, including the interior.
The mi-DO shares the same 2,476mm (97.5 in) wheelbase, 1,500 mm (59 in) height and 1,700 mm (66.9 in) width as Datsun on-DO, but is shorter overall, at 3,950 mm (155.5 in) – the sedan is 4,337 mm long. The front-wheel drive chassis is also shared with the on-Do, with power coming from the same 1.6-liter 8V engine producing 87 hp. The engine is offered as standard with a five-speed manual transmission, but a four-speed automatic is available as an option.
Standard equipment includes driver and passenger airbag, ABS, as well as a winter pack with heated seats and door mirrors. The Datsun mi-DO will arrive in Russian dealerships in early 2015.
As for the Datsun on-DO sedan, deliveries will begin in September, with the Japanese carmaker saying it has received more than 3,000 inquiries from customers since the car’s reveal in April this year.
