In the world of modern racing/driving games, you’re not somebody anymore, unless you have dynamic weather implemented.
It seems to be the next big thing that all developers are trying to do, while at the same time outdoing one another, so that they have something new and exciting to talk about at specialized gaming venues, like this year’s GamesCom 2014.
The PlayStation 4 exclusive title, DriveClub, was shown at the event, and its main new feature was – wait for it – newly-implemented dynamic weather.
According to the developer present to elaborate on what they’ve done, it’s exactly the same as all the other ones we’ve seen and heard about before, but that’s not necessarily a bad point since the dynamic weather bar seems to have been set quite high, so features are abundant.
The question will not be which game has the best/most features, but which will be best implemented…
We’re now looking forward to dynamic weather 2.0, when each individually rendered droplet and its trajectory will be calculated, tracked and, of course, rendered with full bloom, depth of field and the obligatory anti-aliased motion blur.
