Ford announced today a “Lifetime Brake Pad Guarantee” for owners of any Ford, Lincoln or Mercury product.
It’s an unprecedented move even in an age of common no-cost scheduled maintenance programs. And it’s great if you’re not a taxi driver.
According to Ford, taxi, limousine, postal, police, towing and emergency vehicle owners are not eligible to receive a new set of Motorcraft brake pads for free after yours wear down to three millimeters, as long as you own that specific Ford product. If they find out you use your Taurus to moonlight as an Uber driver, you might not be getting free brake pads.
Customers still have to foot the bill for labor and installation, which will therefore keep you wedded to a Ford service department. Even so, it’s a nicer gesture than a free quick car wash or a paper floor mat left by the technician.
Especially if you’re a private owner who constantly cooks the brakes on your Focus ST.
