While not excessively innovative or in any way new, the concept behind the Forza Horizon series in general and Horizon 2 in particular has lots of room to wiggle and improve the genre.
The same basic idea gave birth to Test Drive Unlimited (one and two), and more recently The Crew and Driveclub. All these games are trying to bring their own twist to the formula, but one thing they all have in common that was less of a focal point before is the social side.
Recently previewed and demoed at Gamescom 2014, Horizon 2 will allow players to create clubs up to 1,000 members-strong and then present them with a wide range of different activities they can do as a group (probably not all at the same time, though).
Thankfully, aside from talking about how players will interact, they also showed a lot of gameplay, and we really must commend them for the choice of setting, because everything looks really great – most of the scenery is smashable, so you don’t always have to stick to the road; that will probably be quite satisfying, as well.
