Thought the war on Tesla’s direct-sales model was cooling down? Well, it may just be heating up in Georgia.
According to Automotive News, the Georgia Automotive Dealers Association filed a petition Friday that suggests Tesla illegally open its one Georgia showroom near Atlanta. The company is trying to open two more in the state.
The dealers association claims Tesla violated state law and applied for an exemption for its direct sales model by claiming it was a specialty carmaker and selling less than 150 cars, which it isn’t, according to dealers.
It’s unclear if Georgia’s state legislature will take up the issue. But Georgia is a market especially friendly to electric cars. Atlanta, according to Auto News, is second only to San Francisco in EV market share.
