General Motors may find it more difficult to put these recalls behind it if it can’t find the owners of vehicles with faulty pieces to get repairs, as is proving the case right now.
Automotive News reported that GM told federal regulators that 6 percent of the 2.2 million recall notices it sent about ignition switch problems with the Chevy Cobalt, Saturn Ion, Chevy HHR, among other vehicles, were returned as undeliverable.
That’s reported as high for recall notices that are unable to be delivered, as those instances for other recent GM recalls has been more in the range of 1%.
As of Monday, GM estimates it’s replaced about 693,000 of the vehicles involved in the ignition recall, or roughly 22 percent.
