Even though the BMW M5 with the Competition Package has 567hp, its weight is what ultimately lets it down in this EVO track battle against the slightly less powerful Nissan GT-R.
You can’t have imagined any other conclusion to this particular one, really. The M5 weighs nearly two tons and is only rear-wheel drive, which is fine on the open road, but not so much on corner exits.
When the M5 struggles for grip, the GT-R is stable, planted and probably already accelerating.
It won’t, however, be to your liking if you like a more involved drive. The GT-R is consistently fast, but it’s not really your skill that’s keeping it on the track at speed – it’s the computers and its mechanical grip.
Being at the wheel of the M5 on track requires almost constant adjustment through the steering and throttle, but at least it can be controlled with this more finesse-oriented approach, whereas the GT-R is slightly blunter (and not as engaging). It’s also not as pleasant to drive at lower speeds, either, just noticeably faster and more focused, according to the review that you can watch below the jump.
