As an efficient yet sporty three-door proposition, the Honda CR-Z hybrid was always okay, but you never really actually wanted one.
This had nothing to do with the car per se, yet its annoying lack of power never made it a top choice. However, now, with this supercharger upgrade by HPD Street Performance, Honda’s line of dealer-installed kits, the CR-Z should be capable of moving at a more respectable pace.
The CR-Z comes as standard with a 130 hp output, from its 1.5-liter petrol engine and electric motor combo. The supercharger kit, that includes the actual blower, air-to-air intercooler and higher flow injectors, along with an ECU recalibration boosts that up to 197 – this should have a dramatic effect on how the car drives and feels.
HPD even offers a sport clutch, should more sharpness be required, though they suggest that the factory one is still fine, even with the extra oomph piled on. On top of that, other performance improvements on the chassis side are available – sport dampers can be specified, along with stiffer springs, bigger brake disks and custom 18-inch wheels to complete the look.
Visual distinctions to set these HPD-tuned CR-Zs apart include the aforementioned rims, as well as a unique set of graphics, front and rear lip spoilers and HPD badges.
