It’s been suggested by AutoGuide that the cars their spies spotted wearing i30 clothes is actually a mule for an upcoming Toyota Prius rival from Hyundai.
Four mules were spotted, one of which has a weird extended rear which the source suggests could mean Hyundai is actually readying two versions of the hybrid model.
One would rival the regular Prius, while the other would go on to compete with the Prius V.
The Prius could definitely use some competition that tries to beat it at its own efficiency game, with its own weapons, since the Japanese model’s real rivals, at least in the US, if not everywhere else, are the ultra-frugal diesels.
We say the Prius would need the competition, because it’s losing its main similar adversary, in the form of the Honda Insight, a model that went out of production earlier this year, after having been on the market for just over five years.
