Refinements are apparently in the works to make the Infiniti Q50 the sports sedan it’s always promised to be – and it may even include poaching pieces from the old G37.
According to Car and Driver, an Inifiniti executive has confirmed changes to the steering in the Q50S is in the works, likely in some model-year 2016 cars. It’s unknown if it’s part of a mid-cycle refresh for Infiniti’s compact sedan.
The base steering system in the Q50 is an electric power steering unit, which has come in for serious gripes among reviewers, though not as much as the Direct Active Steer-by-wire system on higher trims. So Infiniti engineers used a new system derived from the steering setup in the old G37 sedan, which you can still buy new.
The hydraulic power steering system as well as some other rumored performance tweaks should make the Q50 stand out a little more among the compact luxury sedans on the market – chiefly the BMW 3-series. So if you’re looking at a Q50, you’d best wait a bit.
