Autocar took two of the newest “sporty” SUVs out, the BMW X4 and Porsche Macan, to see which is best. One is faster, the other is better.
It’s a shame BMW doesn’t offer the X4 with its 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbodiesel in the U.S., because it’s apparently quick. Really quick. It’s a little faster than the Macan’s diesel engine, despite the Porsche being a bit torquier and a bit lighter. And it’s a diesel.
At least we have the xDrive35i with its 300 horsepower that will no doubt give a base Macan a run for its money.
But as the UK magazine finds, the X4 just isn’t as competent as the Macan as an overall package – and that’s saying something considering the Macan’s size renders it more of a tall wagon than anything resembling an SUV. You can guess which one they’d take.
But an X4 diesel suddenly makes good sense.
