Lamborghini unveiled its new racing car, the rear-wheel drive Huracan LP 620-2 Super Trofeo, which will debut in the 2015 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Series in Europe, Asia and North America.
Lamborghini says the Huracán Super Trofeo is “an all-new car built from scratch with a clear racing concept.” Developed by the company’s Motorsport department, the Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo features a light roll cage (43 kg/95 lbs) that extends to the rear axle and a 45 percent increase in torsional stiffness compared to its predecessor, the Gallardo Super Trofeo.
The frame is made from carbon and aluminum with modified geometries to make room for an improved radiator at the front and for the racing gearbox at the rear. The Huracán Super Trofeo has a dry weight of 1,270 kg (2,800 lbs), distributed 42 percent at the front, 58 percent at the rear.
Lamborghini has collaborated with Dallara Engineering for the bodywork and the aerodynamics, with additions including new ‘fast fittings’ and a new oil radiator. The racing Huracán is powered by the same 5.2-liter direct injected V10 engine from the road car, mated to a six-speed Xtrac sequential gearbox, developed specifically for the Huracán Super Trofeo. Managed by a Motec control unit, the engine produces 620 PS (612 hp) at 8,250 rpm and 570 Nm (420 lb-ft) at 6,500 rpm. That’s 10 hp more than the road car, with a weight to power ratio of just 2.05 kg/hp.
As you can see from the photos, aerodynamics have been refined, with Lamborghini saying they offer better drag efficiency, maximum traction and downforce “in any track conditions.” The package includes a rear wing with ten different settings, front and rear diffusers, and adjustable front air intake ducts.
The new Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo will be exclusively equipped with Pirelli tyres. Developed specifically for this model, their sizes are 305/660-18 at the front and 315/680-18 at the back. Fully adjustable anti-roll bars, two-way adjustable Ohlins dampers and hydraulic power steering complete the package.
Inside, the car has a new racing steering wheel developed jointly with OMP, with the cabin being covered with Alcantara in Nero Ade color.
