If a shrunken down Mazda CX-5 sounds like the ideal small crossover to you, then you would be wise to wait. According to sources, such a model is reportedly closer to production than the manufacturer would officially have you believe.
A recently posted report that quotes Mazda’s Australian boss, Martin Benders, confirmed the model is being considered and “it’s not that far away” from production.
The sector is currently booming – probably one of the single fastest-growing sectors on the market. Anything from the Nissan Juke to Opel’s Mokka or even the Skoda Yeti could be considered rivals for this upcoming model that is believed to be based off of the new Mazda2’s platform.
The TheMotorReport doesn’t provide information about where the drive from the engine would go, but since so many of these small crossovers are being sold front-wheel drive-only and doing excellently, there’s little reason for Mazda to bother engineering something that will make up single digit percentages on sales charts.
It’s suggested it could debut in 2015 – 2016.
