The positive reaction to the Nissan IDx concepts was huge. The design and philosophy behind the two cars sparked flights of fancy in the minds of many a entry level enthusiasts looking to buy their first rwd sports car in a few years’ time.
That’s why it’s not with the greatest of joy that we bring you yet another report that announces the radical redesign of the IDx.
With clear inspiration from 1970s Datsuns, Skylines and Laurels, the concepts showed that a retro approach can be maintained without turning tacky. However, Motoring tells us that Nissan has now drastically redesigned the IDx, bringing it more in line with the look of the Sports Sedan Concept.
That in itself is not a bad route to take, as the Sports Sedan is a looker too, but in the context of having first tried the retro approach, it’s not as inspired a decision, I think – it would look something like the quick rendering we did, or this other rendering that somebody else did.
Even so, it won’t necessarily be the design that’s the dominant component of the future small rwd sports car from Nissan. What will be important will be the price and the way it drives and then design.
