We’re used to seeing tall station wagons with FWD passed on as crossovers, but Seat’s new Leon X-Perience not only has the looks, but also comes with standard AWD.
Seat will open UK ordering for the Leon ST (estate) based model on 1 September 2014, ahead of a showroom launch in December, with OTR prices ranging from £24,385 to £28,870.
Along with the permanent all-wheel drive system that uses a fifth generation Haldex multi-plate clutch with hydraulic actuation and electronic control, the X-Perience model gains extra ground clearance, an EDS dynamic control and electronic differential lock (XDS).
The cosmetic upgrades over the regular Leon ST include protection mouldings around the modified bumpers, door sills and wheel arches, twin chrome tailpipes and (faux) aluminum-look guard trims.
In the interior, Seat has added a leather steering wheel with orange stitching and X-PERIENCE logo, and cloth upholstered front sports seats with simil leather bolsters.
You can choose from two trim grades, SE and SE Technology (£1,985), with the latter adding a 5.8-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, DAB radio, navigation, auto headlamps and wipers, Alcantara upholstery and 18-inch wheels.
There’s also an £1,250 optional Lux pack that gives you black leather upholstery with simil leather bolsters, heated front seats, headlight washers and heated washer nozzles, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat and chrome roof rails.
As for the powertrains, the Leon X-Perience is offered with a 2.0-liter turbo diesel in 148bhp (150PS) and 181bhp (184PS) tunes, the latter with a standard DSG dual-clutch transmission.
