You would have never suspected it, but we are currently living among a rather large number of car owners who would rather have their cars drive them instead of vice-versa.

At least that is what some of the more disturbing results of a study conducted by Insurance.com say. According to an Autonews report, back in June, no less than 2,000 licensed drivers were surveyed by the website and it seems that 22 percent said that they would be “very likely” to buy an autonomous car, while 53 percent would consider buying one.

The remaining 25 percent said they would never consider a car that can drive itself, while also making it clear that there are still people out there who enjoy driving, so not all hope is lost.

“People are aware that they already drive cars controlled partly by computers,” Insurance.com Managing Editor Des Toups said. “Now they see features like collision avoidance on new models and hear about Google cars hitting the roads in a couple of years. An autonomous car is not science fiction anymore.”

Still, despite the fact that quite a lot of drivers are embracing driver-less cars, it seems that no less than 76 percent of those interviewed also said that they wouldn’t trust an autonomous vehicle to take their children to school – not yet, at least.
