With a solid lineup of new sedans, Cadillac should be doing better than reporting a 2% slip in sales this year. But that’s where more new product comes in.
Cadillac’s Chief Engineer Dan Leone, in an interview Friday at Pebble Beach with Bloomberg, confirmed that a new high-end, rear-wheel drive sedan would be in dealerships late next year. It’s rumored to be called LTS and look a lot like the stunning Elmiraj Concept that was shown last year in Pebble Beach.
Still, it’s hard to see how Cadillac can substantially increase its volume when the ATS and redesigned CTS sedans are both reporting sizable sales drops over 2013. In fact, the oldest Cadillac, the SRX crossover, is the best-seller in the lineup. And it’s up 16% over this time in 2013.
Cadillac will get a redesigned SRX next year, as well. Not much is known about the new crossover, but it’s expected to stick closely to the current FWD-based version.
Given that GM’s luxury brand has been able to sell the SRX without even really trying, the demand for new luxury crossovers should mean a surge of new buyers will head to a Cadillac dealership for the new one. And maybe then they can be persuaded to check out at least one of the brand’s fine new RWD sedans.
