Besides the 163PS (161hp) 2,0-liter turbodiesel engine that will be available from launch, the Jaguar XE will also get a more powerful 180PS (178hp) version.
The four-cylinder Ingenium 2.0-liter diesel engine will be offered in a more powerful state of tune producing 180PS (178hp) and 430Nm (317lb-ft) of torque – 17hp and 50Nm more than the entry-level version. Jaguar didn’t provide fuel economy and emissions figures for the 180PS engine, but those shouldn’t be too far off the standard engine’s 75 mpg UK (3.7 l/100 km or 62.4 mpg US) and 99 g/km of CO2.
The Jaguar XE will also be available with a range of petrol engines including turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder units and the 340PS (335hp) supercharged 3.0-liter V6. Mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, the latter allows the XE to sprint from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 4.9 second and reach an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).
More details about the XE’s engine lineup will be offered at the Paris Auto Show next week.
The new Ingenium range of diesel engines is produced at Jaguar Land Rover’s new Engine Manufacturing Centre in West Midlands in the UK, where engines will come off the fully flexible lines at rates of up to one every 36 seconds.
Jaguar says the engines were proven over 2 million miles (3.2 million kilometers) of real-world testing. “The new generation of Ingenium diesel engines are wholly designed and manufactured in-house. No opportunity has been missed in ensuring their design is right on the cutting edge of technical advancement,” said Ron Lee, Group Chief Powertrain Engineer at Jaguar.
